Indiana’s Voter ID law sucks

There are some moments when election protection gets really disheartening. Nearly every moment when you have to deal with a law as inane as this. People turned away from the polls, not because there is actual risk of voter fraud, but out of electioneering strategy by one party.

How does this law suck, let me count the ways: nice young woman has a out of State driver’s license & her proof of residency, and a lot of time. She is even registered to vote. We try to send her to the BMV to get an Indiana ID. Great, you say? NO. Without a birth certificate-which she used to get her drivers license-no state ID for her. Which means disenfranchisement.

Another young man moved recently to another county. He is still an Indiana resident. His ID matches his voter registration. Can he vote for state offices? NO. Disenfranchised. WTF.

This sucks. I feel so frustrated. Sure, personal responsibility must play a role, but to prevent people from performing their civic duty for a problem that doesn’t really exist? Sheesh. At least these folks showed up.
